Year 5: Transition Session for Middle Schools

Follow Jack and his journey to find out how he should act when out and about in his local area. He is distracted, doesn't make the best decisions and needs to be more sensible. We look at changes to our journeys from First schools to Middle schools and how to cope with new journeys in areas that students are not used to.

Year 6: Staying Safe Sessions for Middle Schools

Jack's back, he still hasn't learnt to stay safe and a decision he makes leads to him being knocked over and injured - but at least he learns from this. We will also see how difficult it is for us to do two things at once!

Year 7: Distraction

Focusing on distractions, cognitive, visual, and auditory, and the potential consequences and risks associated with being distracted. This session aims to provide pupils with an understanding of the potential consequences of their actions and behaviours, the impact this may have on others. Pupils will have opportunities to identify strategies to minimise distractions and be attentive and mindful of the road and their environment.

Transition documents

Transition to high school is the time when pupils are most at risk of being injured or killed on our roads. Statistics show that young people who are distracted by their friends or technology are most at risk from being injured as they are not giving the roads their full attention. The peak age for children being hurt on our roads is aged 12.

To help your child we have created a leaflet that will help you to discuss these issues with your child and prepare them for their journey to their new school.

The following documents give extra help and advice.
