Active travel Newcastle
Our mission is to revolutionise Active Travel connections in Newcastle-under-Lyme across a three-mile radius, linking Newcastle Town Centre, Newcastle Greenway, Keele University, and Stoke-on-Trent.
Connection one
We're excited to unveil our plan for connection one, set for delivery in 2025. This initiative includes linking Keele University, Newcastle Town Centre, and Stoke-on-Trent.
Key improvements include:
- An extension the George Street scheme along Hassell Street and Barracks Road
- By enhancing public spaces and widening pavement
- A new cycle route as part of the Rycroft development
These improvements will make way for better active travel connections for pedestrians and cyclists and those commuting to and from Keele University.
Connection two
Our second major connection, planned for 2026, focuses on an East-West route.
This initiative will bridge the George Street cycle route to Knutton, Cross Heath, and Silverdale via Station Walks and the Greenway.
Key improvements include:
- Improvements at the A53 Kings Street/Borough Road junction
- A new crossing at Queens Street on the A527
- A new toucan crossing over the A52 at Brunswick Street
These enhancements will grant seamless access to Newcastle Greenway, fostering connectivity to Newcastle College and beyond.
INTO Newcastle
In addition to our infrastructure developments, we also have our INTO Newcastle scheme. Also funded by Active Travel England, this initiative offers free walking and cycling activities designed to enhance residents' health and wellbeing across Newcastle-under-Lyme.
