Active travel Burton

The scheme improved the environment between the pedestrianised area of Station Street and the rail station forecourt on Borough Road.

Segregated cycle routes ran along both sides of Station Street until its junction with Union Street and Guild Street, providing physical separation between pedestrians, cyclists, and traffic, with priority junctions for cyclists at all lightly-trafficked side roads. Cyclists still needed to give way for buses at bus stops.

A segregated cycle route has been provided at Borough Road on the uphill side leading to the rail station. Cyclists traveling towards the town centre were encouraged to use the carriageway until they reached the aforementioned cycle route at Station Street.
