CX018 Structural Maintenance Work for the A34 Talke Road, Newcastle Under Lyme

Staffordshire County Council will shortly be carrying out significant works at A34 Talke Road, Newcastle Under Lyme, as they start work on a £375,000 investment in the local area.

The team will be replacing ironwork where necessary, replacing damaged kerbs and resurfacing the carriageway. Location of this scheme will be on the approach to Bradwell hospital and the central reservation. 


When are the works taking place? 

The work will commence 19 February 2024.

When will the works be completed?

Works are expected to be completed by 29 March 2024.

Will I be able to access my home/business? 

Traffic management consisting of Lane closure and Light heads will be in place for the full duration of the scheme between the hours of 00:00 – 23:59 

During the dates of 11 and 29 March for the safety of the public and of the work force this road will be closed between for resurfacing with working phases. 19:00 – 06:00 each day 

For the small number of properties within the work area access will be maintained when safe to do so. Delays must be expected during resurfacing phases. 

A diversion rout will be in place for properties outside the workspace, no through traffic will be permitted

What effect could the works have on me?

Access will be maintained however we would ask people to allow additional travel time if they need to use this route.

To allow the works to be carried out safely, temporary traffic signals will be required for the majority of the works duration. It will also be necessary for periods of road closure to carry out certain activities. Advance warning of these closure dates and diversions routes will be signed on site at the appropriate time

  • Please drive slowly and cautiously through the works.
  • Check your shoes before entering your property or car to make sure there is no bitumen from the works.
