A38 Branston Interchange Proposed Highway Improvements
The Branston interchange scheme, which will bring major improvements to a key Staffordshire junction and will also support long-term future economic growth, is currently nearing completion. The multi-million-pound A38 (T) Branston Interchange Improvement will ease congestion and increase capacity. It includes creating additional lanes around the junction, on the A38 slip roads and on Branston Road and Parkway. New traffic signals are being installed. Work is set to be completed in late April 2025.
As part of the scheme construction, there will be a series of over-night works required during March and into April. The details are below:
3rd to 7th March and 10th to 14th March 2025 overnight
Carriageway resurfacing, bridge joint repairs and traffic signals cabling will be carried out on the eastern (town centre side) of the Branston interchange roundabout. This will include overnight road closures of the eastern side of the roundabout, the A38 (T) southbound off and southbound on slip roads.
Traffic diversions during these times will be via Claymills junction for A38 traffic and via Rangemore and Needwood for Tatenhill traffic to access the town centre.
Carriageway resurfacing on Parkway, between the A38 and Main Street will also be completed at this time.
17th to 21st March, 24th to 28th March and 31st March to 4th April 2025 overnight
Carriageway resurfacing, bridge joint repairs and traffic signals cabling will be carried out on the western (Tatenhill side) of the Branston interchange roundabout. This will include overnight road closures of the western side of the roundabout, the A38 (T) northbound off and northbound on slip roads and Branston Road near to the roundabout.
Traffic diversions during these times will again be via Claymills junction for A38 traffic and via Rangemore and Needwood for Tatenhill traffic to access the town centre.
During these periods the road closures will be overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning with diversions signed.
The night-time works are required as the slip roads are not permitted to be closed in the daytime. Works will be carried out as quickly as possible, but there may be some noise generated from the works which we apologise for.
In late April all temporary traffic management is due to be removed, and the new traffic signals commissioned, completing the scheme.
