A34 Highway Improvements, Stafford. Town Centre to Weeping Cross

What are we doing?
We will be carrying out maintenance and infrastructure improvements along the A34 Corridor, from Weeping Cross to the Town Centre.
The scheme includes road and transport improvements including road and bridge maintenance work, active travel, passenger transport and street lighting improvements on the A34, between Stafford Town Centre and the A34/A513 double traffic island junction at Weeping Cross.
Roads affected include A34 Lichfield Road, North Walls, Queensville Roundabout, Queensville, Radford Bank, Baswich Lane, Cannock Road and Weeping Cross.
The roadworks are planned to be carried out in eight phases. Works started in early June 2024 and are planned to be completed October 2025. Bus services will be affected between Weeping Cross and Riverway. View further information.

Radford Bank road closure between Weeping Cross and Queensville Roundabout - 22 April to 29 April 2025
Radford Bank will be closed between 8pm – 6am for final surfacing works to all through traffic.
Access to frontages outside each phase will vary from each direction, dependant on work progress.
Residents who live north of Radford Bank Bridge access off Queensville Roundabout and those south to access from Weeping Cross.
The surfacing will be carried out in phases where there will be no access / exit during the closure for residents / businesses within these extents.
During these dates if you need to get in / out of your property, we would ask that you park your vehicle on the adjacent roads outside of the working phase.
Please note: all dates and times are subject to changes should any delays occur due to poor weather or breakdowns
Phase 1 - between No. 20 Radford Bank and Entrance to Radford Bank Public House (including junctions of Lower Radford Rise and Meadow Ridge)
There will be no access to and from your property for two nights:
- Tuesday 22 April 2025
- Monday 28 April 2025

Whilst the remaining surfacing works are completed between 23rd and 29th April we ask that you access your property via Weeping Cross during the night-time closure.
Road markings will be installed under temporary traffic control for six nights:
- Thursday 24 April 2025
- Friday 25 April 2025
- Monday 28 April - Thursday 1 May 2025
During this time there will be disruption, but access will be maintained.
Phase 2 & 3 - between Entrance to Radford Bank Public House Kent Way (including junction to Windsor Road)
There will be no access to and from your property for two nights:
- Wednesday 23 April 2025
- Tuesday 29 April 2025

Whilst the remaining surfacing works are completed on 22nd April you will have access from Queensville Roundabout and on 24th, 25th and 29th April you will gain access via Weeping Cross during night-time closure.

Phase 4 - between Kent Way and Queensville Roundabout (including junction to Kent Way)
There will be no access to and from your property for three nights:

A34 Queensville Road Closure - (between No. 29 Queensville – Queensville Roundabout and exit from Queens Retail Park, including The Glade)
There will be no access to and from your property for two nights:
- Thursday 1 May 2025
- Friday 2 May 2025
Road markings will be installed under road closures with access to frontages only for four nights
- Monday 12 May 2025 - Thursday 15 May 2025
A34 Queensville Roundabout (central island)
Road markings will be installed under road closures with access to frontages only for three nights
- Friday 16 May 2025 - Tuesday 20 May 2025
Dependent upon the closure access to Ampleforth Drive and Queens Retail Park will be via A34 Lichfield Road, Weeping Cross or Silkmore Lane.
