Lichfield roadworks overview

  • Traffic measures are currently in place on the historic Chetwynd Bridge to allow motorists to continue to use it safely. Started in January 2020 and expected to be in place for several years.

  • B480 Elford Bridge, Alrewas Staffordshire County Council Highways team is undertaking essential work to repair the damaged stone parapet and upgrade the failing retaining wall.

  • Essential works on S278 Watery Lane in order to facilitate the entrance to a new development being carried out by Redrow Homes Limited. Works start from 19 June 2024 and are expected to take place for a period of 22 weeks.

This scheme is supporting the development of new homes in Streethay and being funded by the developer, Cameron Homes, as part of their planning obligations.

The scheme will create a new junction off A5127 Burton Road, to provide access to the adjacent development land. 

  • Structural Maintenance Works on A5127 Birmingham Road, Lichfield - 

    Staffordshire County Council will shortly be carrying out significant works at A5127 Birmingham Road, Lichfield as work commences on a £1,150,000 investment in the local area.

    This scheme of work is due to take place between St John Street and Green Hill. This is inclusive of both traffic light junctions at either end of the site.

    Work will include replacement of ironwork where necessary, replacing damaged kerbs and resurfacing the carriageway, traffic signal loops and road markings will all be replaced.

  • A51 Lea Hall Way Rugeley - Third Access Scheme

The currently vacant land, formerly known as the Rugeley Power Station site, will soon be transformed into a new development area.

A portion of this development has been allocated for Staffordshire County Council's requirement of a new All-Through School, set to open in September 2025. The development site will significantly benefit the community of Rugeley. 

The Rugeley 3rd Access scheme includes the implementation of a 3-arm access roundabout from the A51 into the site. The roundabout will be located northwest of the existing roundabout, which provides access to Priory Avenue.
